LETTER

      january 2006

on the land

12-3  This little javelina was wandering up to the homestead from the creek, near the sweat lodge.

The new pumps, all ready to go into the new pump house, to push the water through the new pipes into the house for showers and kitchen. In the meantime, it's buckets to the spring tank.

12-14  Gathering at Basira and Shems' house for a mailing party.

12-21  Solstice overnight vigil. Larry brought the music -- drum, guitars, nez, voice,

Krishna Paul and Patty played exotic wind instruments

12-22In the morning Hayra Nur photographed the sunrise from the spot she hopes next year is inside her house.

In the meantime, this winter she's staying in the Adobe.  Around 7pm, dark, she hears -- a motor? Can't be a motor out here. Maybe another channel of tinnitus? Rashad went into town for Thursday zikhr.  No, it's a motor.  Climbs up the hill with flashlight and finds:

The Wild Blue installer leaning into the office in Rashad's motor home. He's a day late, but has been here since afternoon and so has Rashad, installing the equipment for Internet access for our residents. They had exhausted the solar power, so Rashad's truck (the motor) was doing the job.

Inside, they're seeing that it really works!

12-27  The six chickens are going to school, i.e., to live at the Montessori School in town.

12-31 A spectacular New Year's Eve at the place in town where Silver City area Sufis have zikr on Thursday nights: the premiere performance of the Voice of the Turtle Sufi Choir that Rabiya has brought into existence this year, a spectacular pot luck, and wonderful Dances of Universal Peace into 2006, with an interlude of 'art introspection' led by Darvesha. There were over 60 people together, friends new and old, from far and near.
